Art re-imagines our world in new and unexpected ways. In a day filled with digital experiences and flickering screens, interacting with art can offer us something that cannot be found anywhere else. Art at its best forces an emotional response that pulls us out of the moment and into a magic place, often one in which we didn’t expect to be in. An artist’s aim is to re-envision the world. My purpose here is to draw the audience to join me in the creation of new images.
This installation focuses on the the physical experience of building a painting. In the age of interactive everything – I have decided to engage in “co-creation” in a real and practical way – giving visitors a hands on opportunity to touch, feel, and think about a painting in ways that they aren’t generally allowed to, especially in a museum setting. These paintings and their pieces (each hand painted) are actual works of art which have been dissected in order to let them be rearranged. The goal is to see how meaning and emphasis can be distorted and interpreted to develop something new. Everything in the world today is about reinvention and change.
With these pieces, I invite you, the visitor, to step into my process, to muse, to play, to rearrange and re-imagine the works to your own liking using my vocabulary. I have provided this framework to start the dialogue about how art is made and what it can mean. You are invited to bring your own connections, feelings, and interpretations.
